NEW YORK, NY - After intense negotiations, the American Federation of Musicians and David Byrne’s new Broadway show Here Lies Love have reached a new deal: all audience members will be given a kazoo at the door.
“If people thought our immersive dance floor concept was going to create some buzz, they are really going to be humming when they hear world class musicians playing kazoos every show,” shared Here Lies Love musical director Jim Feeney as he signed a Party City purchase order. “We are very proud to have partnered with the musician’s union to redefine what is considered a contracted 'professional musician' as anyone who took music class in the 3rd grade.”
Ticketed musicians are encouraged to show up to the show early to audition "Row Your Boat" in the Broadway Theatre lobby. Musicians who show kazoo proficiency at a junior high level will be invited to play "Praise You" during the curtain call.
This development is a celebration of unity and mutual respect, showcasing that when different stakeholders in the arts come together, they can create a symphony of fairness and collaboration. Cheers to a deal that not only benefits the musicians but also sets a positive precedent for the industry as a whole.
