Andrew Lloyd Webber is a household name whose unique and spectacular musicals are beloved all over. You know who else is a unique and spectacular visionary? My kid sister Peyton. She’s got stellar theatrical ideas of her own, and they’re pretty good!
See if YOU can tell the difference between what she drew with too much free time in art class and what Andrew Lloyd Webber got produced on Broadway.
1. A steam train competes in a race to impress an observation car. Obviously, this is performed by actors on roller skates.
A: This one’s ALW’s Starlight Express, which opened on Broadway in 1987. I personally can’t wait for the Tom Hooper movie.
2. A Cinderella story! But she’s not like OTHER Cinderellas. She’s a mean punk who’s mean and cool. And mean.
A: Another Webber! Bad Cinderella, composed by Webber, opened on Broadway in 2023. Before that, it was simply Cinderella on the West End. There were no controversies around the West End closing and you definitely shouldn’t look it up.
3. Imagine the Crucifixion except it’s also a fabulous disco extravaganza, narrated by Judas.
A: Ok, this IS Jesus Christ Superstar, but Peyton saw it last year and won’t stop arguing with her Sunday School teacher what kind of rhinestones the real Judas wore.
4. They’re cats. And they’re in a cult. And at the end of the night, they’re gonna SACRIFICE ONE OF THE CATS TO CAT GOD.
A: Trick question! Peyton drew her Warrior Cats AU tableau BEFORE she saw Cats. That’s not stealing. Hers has a much more violent sacrifice… It'll find an audience. Right?
5. Toys are alive. And they wish to be playthings no longer. House by house, they start to take over the world! And it’s told through the eyes of a simple teddy bear who dreams of finding love.
A: This is a Peyton original! It’s gonna be her ticket to stardom. For the record, if you try steal it, she will place a curse on you. With actual magic. She’s practicing as I write this. Is that a mouse skull?
