Aww! Man in TKTS Line Proposes, Ends up with Second Choice Fiancée

NEW YORK, NY. -  34-year-old Malcolm Bishop charmed fellow TKTS Times Square line-waiters this weekend with a spontaneous marriage proposal. Observers were even more surprised when after failing to secure a “yes” from a longtime girlfriend, Bishop swiveled ninety degrees to ask the woman on the other side of the stanchion if she wanted to get married instead.

“I’m not going to stand here all day and not come away with a fiancée,” noted Bishop, squeezing the hand of his soon-to-be-wife, 36-year-old Sarah Turnstill. Bishop had created a t-shirt that read ‘ABBY SAID YES IN LINE FOR SIX’ and had crossed off the words “Abby” and SIX.

“There were lots of good options here. I’ll finish the shirt once we get our tickets. I’m hoping for & Juliet now,” Bishop added, craning his head to view the TKTS board which updates every ten minutes with available shows. 

Turnstill, who was handing out brochures for Singfeld! and The Office: A Musical Parody, was surprised by the sudden offer of marriage. 

“Did it hurt my feelings not to be first choice? Sure, but I’m used to it.” 

Turnstill plans to join Bishop for the rest of his trip, including a two-for-one hop-on-hop-off bus tour of Brooklyn, her home borough, and a dinner of discount Wegman’s sushi. 

“He seems nice enough. I think it will be a funny story to tell their kids someday,” Turnstill’s coworker, Gavin Greer, said while handing this reporter a one-pager for The Gazillion Bubble Show. “I wonder if she told him she has a kid.”

At press time, the couple planned to honeymoon at the matinee performance of Chicago where they have seats three rows apart, but in the same section at least. They have not yet secured a babysitter.
